LOWER EAST SIDE — Mayor Bill de Blasio sported a cut on the bridge of his nose during the monthly NYPD crime stats briefing Tuesday — a gash he said he sustained during a recent softball game.

“This was what we call a collision at first base,” the mayor said. “It happens in softball.”

The mayor refused to name the City Hall staffer with whom he collided, but he did acknowledge it was during a scrimmage with his colleagues.

“They are still working for the city,” de Blasio of the perpetrator.

The mayor has long said baseball is his favorite sport and is an unabashed Boston Red Sox fan.

He said that he got up right after the collision and heeded the advice that his son, Dante, once gave him.

“He said, ‘What you do in a situation like this is you rub some dirt on it and you walk it off,'” the mayor said. “We all got back up, and we kept playing.”
