WASHINGTON HEIGHTS — Police are looking for two men they said are stealing random objects and packages from apartment buildings along Bennett Avenue.

The men have been going to the basement areas of buildings in the vicinity of Bennett Avenue and West 190th Street, taking tools and other items, including seven bicycles and two pairs of ice skates, police said. There has been an increase in these particular burglaries within the past two-and-a-half weeks, officials said.

Deputy Inspector Reymundo Mundo said at a 34th Precinct Council meeting Wednesday evening that the areas hit the most have been Magaw Place, Bennett Avenue and one or two locations on Fort Washington Avenue.

Some residents at the meeting said dozens of packages had been stolen recently, prompting them to become concerned about walking around too late at night.

Police said one of the men wanted was last seen wearing a black shirt and sweatpants with red sneakers. He also had several tattoos on his forearm. The other has a mustache and was last seen wearing a dark hoodie with dark pants and white sneakers, according to the NYPD.

Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime stoppers website at WWW.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then enter TIP577. All calls are confidential.
