BROOKLYN — A 62-year-old teaching assistant was arrested Thursday afternoon for sexually abusing a 5-year-old boy at a Bath Beach school, sources said.
Paraprofessional Alameldin Abdelrahim abused the boy about 10 a.m. Thursday and he was arrested about seven hours later, sources said.
School staff saw Abdelrahim placing the boy's head on his groin, sources said.
Police charged him with sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child, sources said.
NYPD officials didn't immediately provide further information.
Abdelrahim hadn't been arraigned as of Friday morning, records show.
He was also fired from the Department of Education, a spokesman said.
"These allegations are deeply disturbing. This individual was immediately terminated and is no longer eligible to work in our schools," said DOE spokesman Michael Aciman.
"Safety comes first and we are providing the school community with additional support," Aciman added.
