THE BRONX — Rafael Salmanca Jr., the incumbent in the race for District 17, will continue to represent the district after winning handily in Tuesday's primary.

Salamanca Jr., who won a special election last year, secured 72.35 percent of the vote. His, opponent, Helen Foreman-Hines, who he far outspent, got 27.16 percent of the vote, according to unofficial election night results published by the New York City Board of Elections, with 99 percent of election scanners reported.

Salamanca represents Concourse Village, Crotona Park East, East Tremont, Hunts Point, Longwood, Melrose, Morrisania, Port Morris, West Farms, North Brother Island and South Brother Island.

This was the fourth race for which he was on the ballot in a year-and-a-half and he will also face off against Republican Patrick Delices in the general election on Nov. 7.
