THE BRONX — Traveling through the South Bronx just got a little faster for bus riders.

Select Bus Service was added to the Bx6 bus line operating between Washington Heights and Hunts Point on Sunday, providing quicker service on the borough's "critical east-west link," the MTA said.

The SBS buses, which supplement existing Bx6 service, stop at certain high-ridership locations and transfer points along the line while following a slightly different route than regular buses.

Service is also being increased on the local Bx6, after sections of the route for both the local and SBS lines underwent redesigns for things like bus lanes and median bus boarding islands, according to the MTA.

While Select Bx6 buses do not always travel in dedicated bus lanes, the eastbound lane of the tunnel along East 161st Street near Yankee Stadium and the borough’s courthouses is now exclusively for buses.

The new route marks the third in the borough to get Select Bus Service.
