INWOOD — Two robbers posing as police officers duped an elderly woman into letting them into her apartment, then stole $10,000 cash from her bedroom, the NYPD said.

The women knocked on the 78-year-old woman’s door near West 189th Street and Wadsworth Avenue on Aug. 17 around 7:30 p.m., then told her they were police looking for someone who lived in the apartment, according to the NYPD.

The victim informed the women, who were not in uniform but appeared to have shields around their necks, that the person was not home but she let them inside so they could search for themselves, police said.

She later found that one of the women had taken $10,000 in cash from one of the bedrooms, according to police.

The robbers fled toward the river on West 189th Street.

They’re both believed to be between 18- to 25-years old with black hair and were both wearing white shirts, blue jeans and black shoes. One of the women carried a shoulder bag, police said.
