Italian Man Gets Lost Then Shot by Stranger on Staten Island, Report Says

By Aidan Gardiner | August 21, 2017 12:30pm

STATEN ISLAND — An Italian-born man wandering in the borough after getting lost was shot by a stranger Sunday, according to a report.

The 57-year-old victim, who police said is from Italy but lives in the city on a temporary visa, had just hopped off the Staten Island Ferry when he lost his bearings as he walked through the neighborhood, the New York Post reported.

A stranger near Jersey Street and Crescent Avenue approached him and asked him a question about 1 p.m., the paper said.

At some point, the victim took off running and the gunman opened fire, hitting him in the shoulder, the Post reported. It wasn't clear what led to the shooting, and police couldn't confirm the newspaper's account.

He was treated at Richmond University Medical Center, where he's listed in stable condition, an NYPD spokesman said.

The gunman hadn't been arrested as of Monday morning, police said.
