NEW YORK CITY — The outgoing head of the Port Authority will take the helm at the MTA, the transit authority announced Thursday.

Pat Foye, the executive director of the Port Authority, will serve as president of the agency, MTA Chairman Joe Lhota said.

Current Interim Executive Director Ronnie Hakim will become managing director, and the two will be part of a newly formed “Office of the Chairman” along with the MTA’s Chief Development Officer Janno Lieber, Lhota added.

“Pat and Ronnie are veteran transportation professionals who together with Janno form the dynamic team the MTA needs at this moment,” he said in a statement.

Both Foye and Hakim will carry out Lhota’s recently announced “reorganization plan” for the transit system, he added.

Foye, who has been the Port Authority’s executive director since November 2011 and previously served as Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s deputy secretary for economic development, announced he would be stepping down from his position last fall.

He was an MTA board member from 2010 to 2012, Lhota noted.
