Knife-Wielding Thief Threatens Store Worker on Steinway Street, NYPD Says

QUEENS — A shoplifter pulled a knife on an employee at a Steinway Street clothing store after the worker tried to stop him from leaving with stolen merchandise, the NYPD said.

According to police, the suspect walked into the New York and Company store at 30-37 Steinway St. in Astoria around 5:25 p.m. Monday, taking clothing from a shelf and trying to leave without paying.

When an employee tried to stop him, the man pulled out a knife and threatened the worker before fleeing with the stolen goods, authorities say.

The suspect is believed to be between 30 and 40 years old, and was last seen wearing a white polo shirt, black jeans and white sneakers, police said.
