VIDEO: MTA Officer Punches Man in Face Who Later Claimed to be High on LSD

By Ben Fractenberg | August 2, 2017 6:18pm

MIDTOWN — An MTA officer repeatedly punched a man tripping on LSD after he resisted arrest on 34th Street early Wednesday morning, according to video of the incident and officials.

The man, who admitted he was high on psychedelic drugs, tried to get into a stranger’s vehicle before walking down the middle of 34th Street in front of Macy’s Herald Square at about midnight, MTA sources and witnesses said.

Two officers then approached him and tried to bring the man to ground while he yelled and attempted to walk away, video showed.

The officers then wrestled him the ground and one of them appeared to hit him at least seven times in the face while the man repeatedly yelled “help!”

They finally managed to handcuff him and he was taken to Bellevue Hospital.

"The incident is under review," an MTA spokesman said in a statement.

Officials did not immediately respond to questions about the man's current condition or if he was charged with a crime.

The NYPD said they were not aware of the arrest.
