Man Opens Car Door and Punches Woman Who Wouldn't Give Him Cash, NYPD Says

By Aidan Gardiner | August 2, 2017 12:21pm

MANHATTAN — A man pried open a car door and punched a woman in the face when she refused to hand over her cash in Battery Park City on Saturday, police said.

The suspect, who can be seen in police footage released Wednesday, pried open the door of a car and demanded money from a 46-year-old woman at Warren Street at River Terrace about 8:50 p.m., NYPD officials said. It wasn't immediately clear if she was the driver.

She refused to give him anything so he punched her in the left side of her face, cutting it and leaving it bruised and swollen, police said.

In police footage, the suspect appears to have been talking on the phone and then elbowing the glass window of a door with a person inside.

The suspect hadn't been arrested as of Wednesday morning, police said.

He's in his early 20s and was last seen in a dark short-sleeved shirt, dark jeans and dark sneakers, police said.

Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS (8477).
