WILLIAMSBURG — A purse snatcher made off with $2,900 in cash that was hidden inside a cheap handbag, according to police.

The man sneaked up behind a 26-year-old woman who was walking near Graham Avenue and Seigel Street just before 7 p.m. on July 2, where he grabbed her purse, police said.

The thief disappeared south down Graham Avenue with the bag, which was worth just $20 in hand, according to police.

Inside, however, the victim had stacked nearly $3,000 in cash as well as a Bank of America debit card, police said.

No one had been arrested as of Friday, but police were looking for the suspect, thought to be between 18 and 20 years old, wearing a white tank top, dark pants and black sneakers, who was captured on security cameras near the scene.

Anyone with information can call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
