STAPLETON — An ex-con who escaped from custody in his underwear while being arrested for a parole violation Thursday morning was apprehended early Friday by police at a friend's house in The Bronx, police said.

Hector Calo, 41, was being arrested by Department of Corrections parole officers at his 283 St. Paul's Ave. home at about 6:45 a.m. when he fled still in handcuffs wearing only a white tank top and a pair of underwear, according to the NYPD and DOC.

Police found him Friday morning around 1 a.m. at a friend's apartment at a Bronx public housing complex, where they re-arrested him. He had gotten out of the handcuffs, but it's not clear how he got to The Bronx.

He was charged with escaping custody, criminal sale of a controlled substance, criminal possession of a controlled substance and gun charges, including one for having a firearm inside his friend's apartment where a child was nearby, police said.

Calo spent more than two years in prison for a burglary until he was released on parole in 2015, according to DOC records. His parole was set to end in 2020.

He was arrested again in April on Staten Island for drug charges, court records show.

He is set to be arraigned Friday.

Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS or for Spanish 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
