CLAREMONT — A woman was sexually assaulted in the emergency room at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center last week by a person she thought was a hospital employee, according to police.

The unidentified male, who may have been wearing a hospital ID card, grabbed the victim's breast and sexually assaulted her at 11 p.m. on July 14. It's unclear why it took six days until the attack was made public.

The victim notified the person in charge but police have not yet arrested anyone for the crime.

Bronx-Lebanon was also the site of a recent shooting in which a former hospital employee wearing a medical jacket fatally shot a doctor and wounded several others before killing himself on June 30.

Bronx-Lebanon spokesperson Errol Schneer said "the patient has not identified any specific individual" responsible for the attack. He said the hospital takes complaints "very seriously" and is cooperating with the police investigation, as well as conducting its own.
