MIDTOWN — An 83-year-old woman suffered life-threatening injuries when a Port Authority maintenance truck hit her in a Sixth Avenue intersection Wednesday morning, officials said.

The woman, whose name wasn't immediately released, was crossing the street when the northbound driver of the pickup truck turned right from Sixth Avenue onto West 36th Street and hit her about 9:30 a.m., according to witnesses and officials.

"There was an older lady on the ground. There was blood coming from her head," said Mohammad Bhuyian, 40, who works at a nearby fruit stand.

She suffered life-threatening injuries and was listed in critical condition at Bellevue Hospital, FDNY and NYPD officials said.

The driver, whose identity wasn't immediately released, remained at the scene and wasn't immediately charged, police said.

Neither the Port Authority nor the NYPD provided further information.
