ASTORIA — A playground designed specifically for adults that features table tennis, volleyball and exercise equipment is now open under the Triborough Bridge near Astoria Park.
Renovations at Triborough Bridge Playground A, on Hoyt Avenue North between 21st Street and Astoria Park, quietly wrapped up a few weeks ago after a $825,000 overhaul to revamp the formerly shuttered lot.
The upgrades include two all-weather pingpong tables and two volleyball courts, though players must bring their own balls and paddles, a Parks Department spokeswoman said.

The site also features a set of fitness equipment on which park-goers can do exercises like pull-ups and crunches, as well as new benches. The lot was repaved and also received a new drainage system as part of renovation.
Plans for the space were first announced in 2013, but got delayed because work crews were using the lot as they made repairs to the Triborough Bridge, the Parks Department said last year.
The playground is one of several park spaces located beneath the bridge. Another two blocks away will soon house a $1 million dog run, which is expected to open in the next few years, according to the Parks Department's Capital Project Tracker.
