NYPD Sergeant Arrested After Shoving His Wife and Breaking Her Phone: DA

By Nicholas Rizzi | July 10, 2017 1:31pm

MARINERS HARBOR — A NYPD sergeant was arrested after he shoved his wife and broke her phone outside a gas station, authorities said.

Gabriel Oliveras, 39, of Bulls Head, got into an argument in front of the gas station at 2121 Foreat Ave. on Saturday at about 2:14 a.m., prosecutors said.

During the fight, Oliveras pushed his wife then grabbed her cellphone and threw it to the ground, cracking the screen, according to the complaint.

Oliveras was arrested and charged with criminal mischief and harassment at his arraignment, the Staten Island District Attorney's office said.

He was released without bail and an order of protection was issued against him.

"It's a situation that will resolve over time," his lawyer, John Patten, said. "He appears to be a very decent young fellow."

Police did not say what precinct Oliveras works for.
