THE BRONX — Ten people, including civilians and emergency responders, were injured after a large fire broke out in Longwood Monday afternoon, officials said.
More than 100 firefighters responded to the blaze on the second floor of 851 E. 163 St. near Prospect Avenue at about 11:52 a.m., an FDNY spokeswoman said. Flames were seen shooting out of a second-floor window, sending dark plumes of smoke up the building's fire escape.

It took the FDNY about an hour to get the fire under control; two firefighters and one NYPD officer suffered minor injuries.
A witness told reporters that he saw a firefighter carry a badly burned woman out of the building.
“A lot of people were jumping off the fire escape also when they got to the second-floor landing,” Peter Ortega said, according to WCBS. “It was really scary. It was really intense.”
Seven civilians also suffered injuries, one seriously, and six of them were taken to area hospitals in stable condition, fire officials said.
Two apartments were destroyed, according to the Red Cross, who provided emergency housing to at least one family.
It was not immediately clear what sparked the blaze.
