UPPER WEST SIDE —  A driver was killed Friday night after losing control of his car along a curving road in Central Park, where his vehicle mounted the curb and crashed head-on into a tree, according to the NYPD.

Police say the 29-year-old man was speeding in a Nissan Altima heading south on West Drive inside the park near West 60th Street when he lost control of the car at a curve in the roadway shortly after 11 p.m.

The car mounted the curb onto a grassy area before striking an oak tree, according to police. The man was taken Saint Luke's Roosevelt Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

His identity was still being withheld Monday morning pending family notification, police said.
