MIDTOWN — A power outage at Penn Station Thursday evening caused delays and cancellations on the LIRR during the evening commute.
The “Amtrak power problems” caused a loss of third rail power to 12 tracks at the station, the MTA posted on its website at 5:20 p.m.
There were disruptions on all LIRR lines as a result.
The MTA was cross-honoring tickets on the 2/3 subway line for commuters to take trains at the Atlantic Terminal in Brooklyn.
The outage came hours after a power outage in the morning when 500 people were stranded for several hours on a train heading from Port Washington into the city.
Commuters were again left frustrated ahead of this summer's planned repair work.
I love how days before the "summer of hell" repair work even begins at Penn there is another system wide problem on the #LIRR
