QUEENS — A new bank will open on Austin Street in Forest Hills this summer, joining a growing number of financial institutions along the bustling commercial heart of the neighborhood.

The Puerto Rico-based Popular Community Bank, also known as Banco Popular, will open at 71-18 Austin St., where women’s boutique Prima Donna was located before it closed last year.

A representative for Banco Popular said that the Forest Hills branch is part of the bank's expansion "into new markets in Queens" as its “hub branch in Jackson Heights is currently undergoing a full renovation."

Banco Popular is also planning to open a new branch in Long Island City, the representative said.

Austin Street — known for its restaurants and boutiques — is currently home to several branches of various banks, including Santander, Citibank, First Central Savings Bank and Queens County Savings Bank.

Earlier this year, Hanover Community Bank opened its branch at 71-15 and 71-17 Austin St., replacing Dreams Boutique and Continental Pharmacy.

On nearby Continental Avenue, between Austin Street and Queens Boulevard, there is a Chase and Bank of America, among others.
