QUEENS — Queens families don’t have to travel to Coney Island to enjoy amusement rides.

The Forest Park Carousel near Woodhaven Boulevard and Forest Park Drive, which has in recent years added several new attractions, is introducing another ride this Saturday — a mini-drop tower called the Frog Hopper.

“After being pulled gently to the top, guests are sent for a ride that is one giggle-inducing jump after another," NY Carousel, which has operated the Forest Park site since 2012, said of the ride in an email.

In addition to the historic carousel, which was originally carved in 1903 and designated a New York City landmark in 2013, the site currently also features the Woodhaven Express, which is a classic choo-choo train ride, several games and a snack bar.

“In keeping with the tradition of our other rides ... we wanted to install an attraction that children and parents could enjoy together,” David Galst, managing director of NY Carousel, said about the Frog Hopper.

Riders must be at least 42 inches tall to ride the Frog Hopper alone. Children between 36 inches and 42 inches tall may ride with an adult who can join them for free. Kids under 36 inches tall are not allowed to ride, the operator said.

The owners are planning to offer free Frog Hopper rides to the first 100 kids on Saturday, they said.
