BEDFORD-STUYVESANT — A gunman shot and critically wounded a 58-year-old man near the Sumner Houses in Bed-Stuy Wednesday night, police said.

The gunfire erupted at about 7:15 p.m., when the suspect fired several rounds near Tompkins Avenue and Stockton Street, police said.

The shooting was sparked when a good Samaritan intervened in a fight between the gunman and a woman, the Daily News reported. The shooter reportedly struck the victim, who was a bystander and not involved in the fight, once in the chest, and he was taken to Kings County Hospital in critical condition, police said.

Surveillance footage near the scene showed the gunman shouting and gesturing at an unidentified person, and another camera captured images of him firing a silver revolver from the doorway of a building. He fled inside 77 Tompkins Ave. following the shooting, according to police.

The suspect was described as in his 20s, standing about 5-foot-3 and last seen wearing a black hooded jacket, a black hat that said “Brooklyn,” blue jeans and red sneakers, police said.
