MANHATTAN — A mugger has been covering women's faces with white cloth as he robs them at knifepoint in the Spring Street subway station, police said.

In two attacks on June 13 and 17, the suspect, who can be seen in police photos released Wednesday, came up behind the women and grabbed them as they waited on the C and E train platform before pulling the blade on them, NYPD officials said.

In the first attack, he put the cloth over the nose and mouth of a 50-year-old women before stealing $50 and fleeing south toward Sixth Avenue about 10:50 a.m., police said.

Four days later, he attacked a 49-year-old woman similarly, swiping $75 from her purse as she dropped it, police said.

The suspect is about 25, 5 feet 9 inches, and was last seen wearing gray sweatpants, gray sweat jacket, a white T-shirt, white sneakers and a black Nike backpack, police said.

Investigators also recovered surveillance footage of the suspect at the East 125th Street station near Lexington Avenue, police said.
