GARMENT DISTRICT — A 400-foot mural that pays tribute to the Garment District will grace Broadway’s newly-opened pedestrian plazas until the beginning of September.
“Sew and Sew,” a “road tattoo” designed and painted by artist Steed Taylor, will run along the pavement on Broadway between West 36th and 37th streets and West 39th and 40th streets through Labor Day weekend, the Garment District Alliance said in a release.

The city’s Department of Transportation has closed the two stretches of Broadway to traffic this summer.
“Sew and Sew is part of of Taylor’s ‘road tattoo’ concept, which pays homage to communities and explores the idea of a road being considered the skin of a community,” the release said.
“As individuals mark their skin as a means of commemoration, communication or ritual, a road can be marked for the same reason,” it added.
