MANHATTAN — A 5-year-old child and a man in his 30s died and three others were hurt when an SUV they were in rear-ended a box truck on the George Washington Bridge on Wednesday night, officials said.
They were heading east on the upper level of the bridge about 8 p.m. when their GMC Acadia slammed into the back of the truck, according to Port Authority and FDNY officials.
The 5-year-old and a man in his 30s were pronounced dead at New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center, according to the Port Authority Police Department.
Three others — a 1-year-old, a woman in her 70s and another in her 30s — were also treated at the hospital, Port Authority officials said.
There were initially heavy delays on the bridge, but those cleared by midnight, Port Authority officials said.
Port Authority Police were investigating the crash, officials said.
