BEDFORD-STUYVESANT — A New Jersey contractor is looking to build a six-story apartment building on Franklin Avenue just above DeKalb Avenue, according to Department of Buildings records.

Victor Battaglia, of Morganville, New Jersey, filed permits this week to build a six-story, 16-unit building with a mezzanine at 245 Franklin Ave. just north of DeKalb Avenue, where he plans to entice renters with private decks, a backyard, and washers and dryers, according to Battaglia.

The building will include studio apartments and two-bedroom units, said Battaglia, who bought the property along with three other adjoining properties in 2000 for a mere $135,000.

Other amenities will include stainless steel appliances and granite counters, he said.

The new building will replace a now-shuttered laundromat, which closed about a month ago, Battaglia said.

Battaglia, whose limited-liability corporation DeKalb Ave. Realty bought the property along with three adjoining lots for $135,000 in 2000, said he expected demolition and construction on the project to begin within three to four months.
