EAST HARLEM — El Barrio Week is back with a number of events to help tourists and residents alike celebrate the rich culture of the neighborhood, and to support local businesses and cultural institutions.
The first event of the 10-day celebration kicked off Thursday, and upcoming festivities will include domino tournaments, art exhibitions, food tastings and dance parties.
The fun will culminate on June 10 with the 32nd annual 116th Street Festival, which is billed as the largest Latin festival in the Northeast.
A guide for the week was put together by Visit El Barrio, a marketing and tourism campaign by Hope Community Inc., a local affordable housing management organization that provides funding to local businesses and is backed by the city's Department of Small Business Services.
