THE BRONX — A mother pushed a stroller holding her 2-year-old son down a flight of stairs at a South Bronx subway station Thursday afternoon, officials said.

The 25-year-old woman was distraught after separating from her boyfriend when she was seen sending the stroller down the stairs at the 149th Street-Grand Concourse station at about 2:30 p.m., NYPD officials said.

The child suffered a laceration under his left eye and was taken to a Lincoln Hospital in stable condition.

The mother was acting erratically when police arrived at the scene and was taken to North Central Bronx Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation, an NYPD spokeswoman said.

It was not immediately clear if the boyfriend was the boy's father or if any charges would be filed against the mother.
