MANHATTAN — A Brooklyn man was arrested for lying to police after falsely claiming two armed thieves stuck him up for more than $30,000 in Central Park early Tuesday, the NYPD said.
Mohammad Shaukat, 22, was charged with making a false written statement to police for fibbing about the episode that he said took place on West Drive near West 97th Street about 12:20 a.m., according to the NYPD.
The Midwood resident told investigators the robbers also stole camera equipment from him, according to police.
It’s unclear what his motive was or how police determined he was lying.
Shaukat has one prior sealed arrest, according to police.
He was awaiting arraignment Tuesday morning.
