MANHATTAN — A man suffered life-threatening injuries when he was hit by a northbound A train as it entered the West 14th Street Wednesday morning, officials said.

The man, whose identity wasn't immediately released, was hit near Eighth Avenue about 11:19 a.m., according to FDNY and MTA officials.

"The train was coming into the station and stopped mid-platform. You knew something was wrong. they told us we had to get off," said Julio Ventura, 46, who was heading from the Lower East Side to Washington Heights for a job interview.

When Ventura stepped onto the platform, he saw the grizzly scene.

"The guy was underneath the front of the train. The Fire Department was trying to get him out. You could see a leg was missing. His right hand was missing from his wrist, but he was breathing," Ventura said.

"They told us to get off the platform. It was very disturbing," he added.

He was treated at Bellevue Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition, officials said.

An MTA spokeswoman didn't have further information.

There were service disruptions and delays on the A, B, C, D, E, F and M lines, the MTA said.
