Private Garbage Truck Fatally Hits Woman in Greenwich Village, Police Say

GREENWICH VILLAGE — A 60-year-old woman was fatally struck by a private garbage truck on Greenwich Avenue on Tuesday night, police said.

The woman, whose name wasn't immediately released, was crossing south on West Eighth Street about 11:40 p.m. when the eastbound truck on the avenue hit her, NYPD officials said.

Her body was covered in injuries when she was taken to Lenox Health Greenwich Village, where she was pronounced dead, police said.

The driver stayed at the scene and wasn't immediately arrested, police said.
