Queens School Put on Lockdown After Boy Brings BB Gun, Officials Say

QUEENS — A Springfield Gardens school was on lockdown Wednesday morning after a student brought a BB gun to school, officials said.

The 11-year-old boy, whose name wasn't released, was outside the campus at 145-00 Springfield Boulevard when he told a peer that he had a BB gun, according to NYPD and Department of Education officials.

The peer ran into the school and told a teacher who then summoned police, officials said.

Investigators found the BB gun in a nearby park, but police said it never made its way within the campus.

The lockdown was lifted after the gun was recovered, officials said.

"Students and staff are safe," said schools spokeswoman Toya Holness.
