NEW DORP — A California-based chain known for its fast-cooking pizza will celebrate the opening of its first New York City location by giving away free pies Friday.

Blaze Pizza will open a 2,500-square foot location at Hylan Plaza, 2590 Hylan Blvd., on Thursday and host a free pizza day Friday, the company announced.

People who follow the company on social media will get a free, 11-inch pie with any toppings from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., the company said. The space, which will use recycled and sustainable materials, will also serve beer on tap, as well as wine.

The Irvine-based chain — which counts famous investors including LeBron James, Maria Shriver and her son Patrick Schwarzenegger — launched in 2012 and cooks its pies in a high-temperature oven in 180 seconds.

The nationwide chain currently has six locations in the state, with the Staten Island outpost its first in the city.

The eatery will have to compete with a plethora of local joints, including New Dorp's Pizzeria Giove, which was ranked as one of the best pies in the borough by Thrillist.
