ST. GEORGE — An Ohio-based hibachi steakhouse will open its first New York outpost inside the outlet mall on Staten Island's waterfront when it debuts next year.

Wasabi Steak & Sushi leased 7,172 square feet inside Empire Outlets and plans to open when the mall does in March 2018, developers BFC Partners announced Wednesday.

"We are thrilled to bring in Wasabi Steak & Sushi alongside the incredible mix of retail and restaurants that will make Empire Outlets one of New York City’s best dining destinations," Joseph Ferrara, principal of BFC Partners, said in a statement.

“Whether you’re in the mood for a romantic steak dinner or looking for a place to have a larger celebration, Wasabi at Empire will be the perfect venue."

Wasabi currently has four locations around Ohio and the Staten Island spot will be its first one outside of that state.

The $350 million project will bring 100 outlet stores such as Nordstrom Rack and Nike, a 190-room hotel and parking garage adjacent to the St. George Ferry Terminal.

Restaurants including Shake Shack, Two Boots Pizza, Mighty Quinn's Barbeque and an "artisanal food hall" MRKTPL have already leased space at the outlet mall.
