MIDTOWN — A yellow cab flipped over on Fifth Avenue near Saks Fifth Avenue Wednesday afternoon, sending the cabdriver and his female passenger to the hospital, fire officials and witnesses said.

The cab was driving southbound on Fifth Avenue near 49th Street just before 2:14 p.m. when witnesses said it struck a metal pedestrian barricade near Rockefeller Center and flipped over.

"People really rushed onto the scene," said Adam Gil, 39, who works at the intersection, who heard a "loud screeching" then a bang.

He said he watched a pedicab driver pull the driver out through the window. A woman passenger managed to climb out of the cab on her own, he added.

"She was holding her head and ran out," Gil said, adding that the scene was "really shocking."

The FDNY said two people were taken to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition.

The cab was righted by emergency service workers after the crash.
