Driver Arrested for Punching Traffic Agent Who Told Him Not to Turn: NYPD

CHINATOWN — Police arrested a driver who hit a traffic agent with his car when told not to make a turn before getting out and punching the agent in the face, officials said.

David Arroyo, 48, was driving a black Nissan Sentra for an unspecified car service around 5:40 p.m. Tuesday at the corner of Canal and Centre streets when he was told by a 49-year-old male NYPD traffic agent that no turns were allowed at the intersection, police said.

Arroyo then tried to drive around the agent, hitting him in the left knee with his car, authorities said.

When the agent told Arroyo to stop his car, he got out and punched the agent in the face, police said.

He was arrested on charges of assault, obstructing governmental administration and harassment, court records show.

Arroyo had not been arraigned as of Wednesday morning, according to the Manhattan District Attorney's office.

Information on lawyer was not immediately available.
