Pedestrian Hit by Side View Mirror in Critical Condition, Police Say

THE BRONX — A man suffered life-threatening injuries when he was hit by the side view mirror of a passing vehicle on Sunday night, police said.

The 48-year-old man, whose name wasn't immediately released, didn't have the right of way as he crossed the street near Ellis Avenue and the Cross Bronx Expressway and was hit about 5:44 p.m., an NYPD spokesman said.

The mirror knocked him to the ground where he hit his head, police said.

The victim was treated at Jacobi Medical Center, where he's listed in critical condition, police said.

The driver, whose identity wasn't released, remained at the scene and investigators believe it was an accident, police said. The driver wasn't immediately charged or ticketed, officials said.
