By  Ben Fractenberg and Aidan Gardiner | May 1, 2017 4:22pm

STATEN ISLAND — Two teens were arrested for bringing two guns into Curtis High School Monday afternoon, according to police.

A 16-year-old student was found with a loaded .22 caliber handgun in his book bag and an 18-year-old student was found with an unloaded .40 caliber gun in his bag inside the school on Hamilton Avenue near St. Marks Place at about 1:22 p.m., an NYPD spokesman said.

No one was injured and both students were taken into custody. Charges were pending.

It was not immediately clear how the guns were discovered.

A Department of Education spokeswoman said it was providing additional support to students following the arrests.

“The safety of students and staff always comes first and this troubling incident was swiftly addressed,” DOE spokeswoman Toya Holness said in a statement.

“The NYPD immediately responded and safely recovered the weapons. We are providing the school with ongoing support and extra guidance counselors to ensure appropriate follow-up action is taken.”
