MOTT HAVEN — A 3-year-old Brooklyn girl was killed in a car crash on Bruckner Boulevard after the car she was traveling in got rear-ended by a garbage truck, police said.

Sophia Aguirre, 3, was riding in a 2000 Chevy Malibu on Saturday around 10 a.m. with her family, when the driver slowed down to avoid a raised metal sewer cover by 380 Bruckner Blvd. and was rear ended by a garbage truck, according to the NYPD. The Chevy then rammed into a metal pole, police said.

EMS took Aguirre to Lincoln Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said.

The truck driver stayed on the scene after the crash, and although the investigation is ongoing, no criminality is suspected at this time, according to police.

The road is expected to be resurfaced within two weeks, and the Department of Transportation inspected the area right after the crash and found no safety concerns, officials said.

Max Estenger Art, who identifies himself online as a friend of Aguirre's father, set up a GoFundMe page for the family on Sunday that has so far raised $4,540 of it's $25,000 goal.

The fund is meant to help the family with "funeral expenses, medical expenses and any further life services necessary to deal with this unbearable tragedy."
