CHELSEA — A hotel worker tried to steal $154 worth of steaks, whiskey, avocados and other provisions from the Dream Downtown, the NYPD said.

A supervisor at the hotel on West 16th Street, between Eighth and Ninth avenues, asked a worker to check another employee’s bag before leaving work after discovering items missing from the hotel’s inventory, police said.

When the worker checked the 29-year-old man’s bag around 5:05 a.m. on April 22, he found two steaks worth $50, a bottle of Jameson worth $42, a bottle of Johnnie Walker Black worth $48, a $3 bottle of Perrier water, three avocados worth $4, six limes worth $2, an Evian water bottle worth $1, and a case of tomatoes worth $4 inside, the NYPD said.

The employee was arrested for petit larceny, police said.

The Dream Downtown did not immediately respond to request for comment Thursday.

Other recent crimes in the 10th Precinct include:

► A 19-year-old man was arrested after a police officer spotted him selling pot to someone at the northeast corner of West 18th Street and 10th Avenue around 3:40 a.m. on April 23, police said. When police searched the 19-year-old, they found a “substantial amount” of marijuana packaged for sale, drug paraphernalia with residue, five pills and two fake Florida drivers licenses.

► A 34-year-old man was walking near the northeast corner of West 16th Street and Eighth Avenue around 4:55 p.m on April 20 when a man he didn’t know started screaming and “acting irate,” the NYPD said. The upset man ran toward the 34-year-old and punched him in the right ear, knocking him to the ground and leaving him with a bloody ear and left hand. The attacker fled into the subway station at West 14th Street and Eighth Avenue, and the victim went to City MD for treatment. No one had been arrested in connection with the incident as of Wednesday.
