WILLIAMSBURG — A driver flashing a badge and claiming to be a police officer shouted an anti-Semitic slur and threatened a Jewish man on Wednesday, police said.
The altercation began just before 3 a.m. at the BP Gas Station at the intersection of Kent Avenue and Hewes Street when a driver rolled into the lot and told a 38-year-old, who was speaking with a friend, to move his car, and shouted a slur at him, police said.
The man got out of his car and while he was in the bathroom the victim snapped a picture of his license plate, police said.
When the driver came out of the bathroom he saw the man taking taking the picture and threatened him, according to an NYPD spokesman.
He then took out his wallet flashing a police shield and said, "I am police, don't call the police," officials said. He got back into his car and drove off.
The incident was referred to the NYPD's hate crime task force, a police spokesman said. No one had been arrested as of Thursday morning.
