LOWER EAST SIDE — A woman waiting for the J train at the Essex Street-Delancey Street station was approached by a person who spat in her face then threatened her with a knife on April 15, according to authorities.

The 18-year-old victim was waiting for a southbound J train at around 5 p.m. when she noticed someone staring at her, police said.

The person then ran up to the woman and spat on her face, then pulled a knife and waved it in a threatening motion, police said.

The victim was afraid and ran away, according to a police report, while the suspect fled in an unknown direction.

The suspect is described as around 30 years old, standing at 5-foot-7 and weighing 155 pounds, though police did not have further information regarding the suspect's gender.
