BUSHWICK — A woman stabbed her boyfriend in the back and shoulder with a kitchen knife during an argument about him staying out late and drinking, police said.

The 28-year-old man returned home to his Woodbine Street apartment from a night of carousing around 6:20 a.m. Sunday morning, angering his girlfriend Leidy Monroy, 28, police said.

After the couple started arguing about his drinking and staying out late, the fight swiftly escalated, police said. Monroy grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed the man, leaving him with two deep, five-inch gashes, police said.

Emergency workers rushed to the scene and took the man to Wyckoff Hospital, where he was treated for his wounds, police said.

Police later arrested Monroy and prosecutors charged her with assault, menacing and weapons possession, records show.

Released on her own recognizance, Monroy is due back in court on June 15, court records show.

The Bushwick resident's Legal Aid attorney didn't respond immediately to a request for comment.
