EAST HARLEM — A man made off with $10,700 in jewelry and a Russian passport packed inside a suitcase he stole from a woman's East 117th Street apartment while she was moving, police said.

The 29-year-old resident told police that she was moving out of the apartment at 244 E. 117th St. on April 1 around 11:40 a.m.

While she was packing up her remaining belongings and taking them to her new apartment, the suspect entered the building and found her packed-up belongings, police said.

The suspect then swiped a suitcase containing a number of expensive pieces of jewelry, including a Cartier bracelet, a set of white pearls, a blue stone-and-pearl necklace and red stone earrings, among other items, the NYPD said.

The thief also got away with the victim's Russian passport, police said.

Surveillance footage from the building captured the suspect in the apartment building wearing a black hat and a hoodie, police added.

Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Steven Carra at 212-860-6536.
