THE BRONX — Rapper Bobby Shmurda was sentenced to up to four years behind bars on Friday for trying to smuggle a shank into Rikers Island, according to the Bronx District Attorney's Office.

The 22-year-old rapper's girlfriend Kimberly Rousseau was caught hiding a homemade knife in her bra when visiting him at the jail on June 21, 2015, and both were charged with promoting prison contraband and criminal possession of a weapon.

Shmurda, whose real name is Ackquille Pollard, was also charged with perjury for lying about the incident to a grand jury.

The rapper pleaded guilty to attempted promoting of prison contraband and was sentenced to one and one-third to four years on Friday, according to the Bronx DA's Office.

Shmurda had previously been sentenced to seven years in prison for a December 2014 arrest on conspiracy, gun and drug charges related to East Flatbush's GS9 street gang, and his sentence for prison contraband will run concurrently with this one.

Although Shmurda was extremely vocal about his displeasure with the plea deal stemming from his December 2014 arrest, saying that he was "forced" to take the sentence and did not want to accept it, he remained silent throughout the court proceedings on Friday, according to the Bronx DA's Office.

The rapper's lawyer Alex Spiro declined to comment on the sentence.
