EAST HARLEM — A 15-year-old boy managed to get away from a would-be robber who slugged him in the face inside a subway station, the NYPD said.

The victim was on the train platform at the East 125th Street and Lexington Avenue subway station on March 25 around 1:20 a.m. when the suspect punched him in the face, police said.

The would-be robber then tried to take the teen’s phone, but the victim put it in his pants pocket and ran from the station, police said.

The victim was taken to Harlem Hospital for treatment.

The suspect was described as about 18 years old, standing 5-foot-3 and weighing about 145 pounds, police said.

The NYPD released surveillance images Thursday of the suspect leaving the station.

He was last seen wearing black Adidas jogging pants, black sneakers, a dark hat, a blue-and-yellow hoodie, and a green backpack, police said.

Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS or for Spanish 1-888-57-PISTA (74782)
