FINANCIAL DISTRICT — Police arrested a man Tuesday accused of stealing an assortment of bags, wallets and laptops from eight customers at six Financial District bars and restaurants — including one of the St. Patrick's Day bag snatchings.
Deniz Halilov, 28, of Staten Island, targeted women's bags left unattended at Financial District bars the Dead Rabbit, Pier A Harbor House, Killarney Rose, Mad Dog and Beans, sandwich shop Shorty's and Murphy's Tavern, between March 7 and March 26.
Halilov also allegedly stole a $200 Marc Jacobs bag from a customer who had left the bag on a bench at the Dead Rabbit on St. Patrick's Day — where he also stole bags from on March 13 and March 16, police said.
Sources said they do not believe that Halilov — who previously worked at a bar in the Financial District, though not at one associated with his alleged thefts — was connected to any of the other five bag thefts on St. Patrick's Day in Lower Manhattan.
