RICHMOND TOWN — The executive director and CEO of Historic Richmond Town, Ed Wiseman, resigned from his post after nearly 10 years, the museum announced Monday night.

Wiseman, who took the helm of the museum in 2008, will leave his post immediately and be replaced by historian and writer Barnett Shepherd as the interim director.

"Despite the many challenges, I have enjoyed every moment at Historic Richmond Town these past nine years," Wiseman said in a statement.

"It is time to move on and take on new and different projects and adventures. I am grateful to the board, staff and volunteers for their dedication and support."

Shepherd will help the museum search for a replacement for Wiseman and their marketing director, Frank Saulle, will oversee planning for their spring events, according to the announcement.

"Historic Richmond Town is extremely grateful for Ed’s vision and contributions," said board president, Kevin Fisher, in a statement.

"From signature events including Uncorked, All American Drive-In and the BBQ & Chili Cookoffs, to dealing with the ravages of Superstorm Sandy, Ed was devoted to the mission. We wish him well."

Before he joined the museum in late 2008, Wiseman worked in the entertainment industry and racked up eight Emmy Awards, according to his biography. He worked on the PBS show "Reading Rainbow" during its entire run, directing and producing episodes.
