THE BRONX — A suspect was arrested Tuesday in connection with the fatal shooting of a Mott Haven woman at Morrisania's Forest Houses Monday night, police said.

Aaliyah Alder, 21, was shot once in the head on an eighth-floor stairwell of 965 Tinton Ave., near East 163rd Street, around 10:30 p.m. after getting involved with a fight that her friend was having with her boyfriend, the NYPD said.

She cut the boyfriend with a knife, but his friend then shot her at point blank range, police said. She died at the scene.

Officials arrested Davaughn Johnson, 22, in connection with the shooting, and he was charged with murder, manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon, police said.

He was arraigned on Wednesday and remanded, and he is due back in court on April 3, according to the Bronx District Attorney's Office.

Alder was an aspiring model, her stepfather, Patrick Murray, told NBC New York.

"She was a hard-working person. A good personality. A good person, a person you can trust," Murray told NBC.
